We met Shana in 2016 when she became one of our first ambassadors for BAME2020. She was part of our launch team for Google. Shana is a great example of someone who wants to make change in our sector; here she tells us more about her new venture and the creation of Generosity Bank.
Shana (Marquez) Doherty
When I joined BAME20/20 I had enjoyed a career spanning over 8 years at global ad agencies Dewynters as Head of Digital and then Digital Director at Havas Media. A lot has happened in the last 4 years since. Following my post as Head of Entertainment sector for Rocketfuel Inc at the ad tech company’s London office, I went on to spend 2.5 years at Marathon Music Group, as Group Digital Director working across the group’s multiple record labels as well as a position on the Marathon LABS start-up acceleration programme.
In 2019 I took a contract role in the UAE with Flash Entertainment to lead Digital for one of the largest and most valued annual live events in the Emirates, the official 48th National Day celebration.
Then in May 2020 I went on to launch Generosity Bank, a self-service online platform connecting professionals with local small businesses for skills based volunteering on a short term and one-off basis. The platform was something I had worked on over the 2 years prior whilst juggling parenting and a busy full-time job in London. I have often volunteered my time for causes and initiatives important to me, such as the BAME20/20 initiative and 3 years representing my local station area on the c2c Rail passenger panel and these experiences inspired me to create Generosity Bank.
It’s difficult to say what the future might hold as I never dreamt of having the career, the experiences and opportunity to meet so many wonderfully inspiring people along the way. One thing that I do hope for, is that Generosity Bank delivers on the vision of more active and connected communities
